A group of four friends turned £20 into over £14,000 after teaming up for a “ridiculous” bet.
Kyle Tomlinson, 22, from Welton, Lincolnshire and his friends Kieran Tatton, Sam Johnson and James Penney each paid £5 into a bet which made them over 700 times as much.
Kyle shared a screenshot of the bet on Twitter showing their £20 stake turned into £14,280.
The bets were placed on two football matches, Burnley vs Manchester United and Wolverhampton vs Everton.
The Burnley vs Manchester United match took place on January 12, with odds on Ashley Westwood and Luke Shaw receiving yellow cards at 20/1.
The Wolverhampton vs Everton match also took place on January 12, with odds on Abdoulaye Doucour and Nélson Cabral Semedo receiving yellow cards at 33/1.
Each of the four won £3,570.
More than 59,000 people have liked Kyle’s tweet, which said: “I can confirm the group chat has just gone mad.”
Kyle said: “I’ve been betting from as soon as I turned 18 but the most I’ve won before this was £90.”
“Kieran was the brains of the bet – he had seen the odds for this bet and was going to put a fiver on it, and then me, Sam and James decided to do the same.
“We all chipped in £5 to one bet and said we would split any winnings.
“When we found out we all went absolutely mental – I was shouting the house down.
“Friends and family didn’t believe it at first but now they’re buzzing for us.
“We’re all planning on going away somewhere together as soon as we can.
“I’ll definitely be betting again tonight.”
Twitter users were amazed by the group’s good luck.
One wrote: “It’s always the most ridiculous bets that seem to win. No more logic anymore for me. Just bet on madness like this.”
Another said: “Madness sticking 20 quid on that but fair play.”
But another asked for tips: “For real where you putting these bets?
“Even if I won £100 I’d be happy, this is ridiculous. Well done.
“That’s a house deposit for a home.”
